Children set to stage military honours service
The pupils with teacher, Mrs Alison Yarwood, are taking part in a Heritage Lottery-funded project called James Dixon’s Boys, organised by Child
Action Northwest to commemorate the lives of 11 old boys from Blackburn Orphanage who were killed in the Great War. The children will be taking part in a service of remembrance with military honours on Sunday, July 13, at 2pm at St Peter’s Church, Salesbury, led by the Rev Martin Duerden.

The service will be attended by the granddaughter of James Dixon, the founder of Blackburn Orphanage, Mrs Nancy Hill with her daughter Miss Beth Hill. Project organiser Harriet Roberts said: “The events organised at the Museum of Lancashire and the actors at Fulwood Barracks really brought the project to life.”
