Man wanted for serious knife point robberies arrested after four hour police stand-off in Burnley

Police were called to Burnley town centre following reports a man had been seen stealing items from Boots yesterday (Tuesday, January 5).
Following further enquiries, it was discovered the man had been actively shoplifting in the area and had stolen from other stores.

Hide AdThe man was pursued on foot through the streets after he was spotted by "eagle-eyed officers", but he fled over a wall and into the River Brun.
He then proceeded to climb onto the roof of a nearby building opposite Church Street.
"Despite being surrounded, the male refused to come down from the roof prompting Lancashire Fire and Rescue, North West Ambulance Service and negotiators having to be brought to the scene," a spokesman for Lancashire Police said.
After sitting on a snow covered roof for four-and-a-half hours the man finally came down and was arrested.

Hide AdPolice said it later transpired the man was wanted for four serious knife point robberies which took place in Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
He remains in custody for questioning.
