Motorist caught driving at 78mph through 50mph roadworks on M55 near Preston

A motorist who was driving in front of a police car was caught reaching speeds of up to 78mph through 50mph roadworks on a stretch of the M55 today (March 13).
Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are in place along a short stretch of the M55 where a new junction (junction 2) is being constructed as part of Lancashire County Council’s Preston Western Distributor road project.

Hide AdThe speed limit is enforced to to ensure motorists who drive through them, and road workers, are safe.
Once pulled over by police, the driver said he didn't realise there was a temporary speed limit.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Driver reported for excess speed through the roadworks on the M55.
"Recorded at 78mph with a my police vehicle behind.
"The driver [said they] had no idea there was a 50mph temporary speed limit. Not good enough."
