Major congestion for Lancashire motorists after motorway crashes
All lanes were stopped and there was queueing traffic after an accident involving two cars on the M61 Southbound between J8 and J6 near Rivington Services heading towards Manchester..
Queues and delays of up to 40- minutes were building up back towards Chorley.

Hide AdAnd to make matters worse, there were delays of up to an hour on the M60 near Manchester.
It was affecting the M60 anti-clockwise after a traffic collision and large oil/diesel spillage between J15 and J13 for Worsley.
A lorry driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the crash.
The driver, a man in his late 20s, was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment to ‘multiple injuries’ following the crash near Salford.

Hide AdMotorway police closed the road between junction 13, Swinton, and junction 16, Kearsley to allow the emergency services to attend.
Highways England tweeted: “The M61 in GreaterManchester remains blocked southbound between J8 and J6 near Bolton due to a traffic collision and spillage.
“Our Traffic Officers are working at scene to attempt clearance, but one of the vehicles across all lanes will not tow as has its handbrake stuck on.”
Lane were starting to be reopened shortly before 5pm.
