Planners give the green light to holiday caravan park at Whittingham Sports and Social Club
Whittingham Sports and Social Club has hosted holiday makers off and on in the past.
But this retrospective application will formalise use of open land for touring caravans and camper vans.

Hide AdAgent Chris Weetman of CW Planning Solutions, who sent Preston City Council the proposals, said: “It’s for people who want to stay and visit the Trough of Bowland. There will be space for 29 caravans.
“It’s run by the sports and social club. They’ve got this land and it doesn’t do much, it just sits there. They’ve had campervan rallies and they thought why not put it to commercial use.
“The land is part of a much bigger development with Homes England taking up most of the former Whittingham Hospital site. This is just a smaller leisure oasis in the middle of that.”
On-site parking will provide 60 spaces and a caravan for a warden will be stationed at the land all year.

Hide AdPlanning documents, submitted on behalf of applicant Rob Parker, state: “The proposal is in two parts, the use of part of the car park and rough areas of land around the bowling green and the clubhouse for the siting of up to 30 touring caravans, and the siting of a static caravan adjacent to the clubhouse for the siting of a warden to allow for on site security and supervision.”
