Preston city centre roads to close during weekends
Work is about to start on second phase of a series of road and pavement investigations in the Adelphi Quarter as part of the next phase of the University of Central Lancashire’s multi-million pound Masterplan project.
In January planning permission was granted to UCLan for the £57m Student Centre and Civic Square project. As a result, a number of inspection trenches will be excavated in and around the Adelphi roundabout and connecting pavements and roads.

The first phase, which involved digging up the pavements has already been finished so now roads will have to be closed.
Work will start on Sunday (April 22) and will continue every Sunday for the next three weeks.
The roads affected include sections of Corporation Street, Friargate, Moor Lane, Walker Street and Fylde Road.

Michael Ahern, UCLan’s chief operating officer, said: “Works are being carried out on Sundays when the lowest volume of traffic is seen in Preston, to reduce disruption as much as possible. Roads will be open on weekdays and Saturdays.”
He added: “As this preparatory work will impact on traffic coming into the city centre, we would advise road users to allow more time when travelling on Sundays.
“These important investigations will ensure works can be carried out on time and with minimal disruption once the construction phase of the Student Centre commences.
