Readers share their views on tackling city centre jams
Members of the Business Improvement District’s City Retail Forum told the Evening Post last week how they are working with the county council, to look at traffic issues around the Fishergate area.
Temporary measures were introduced in December, following gridlock around the ‘shared space’ on Fishergate and beyond, and traders are now calling for long-term solutions.

One More Guild wrote: “The congestion before Christmas was exceptional..
“Daily peak hour congestion occurs because too many drivers are on the road at the same time. Drivers can ease the congestion by travelling at a different time or giving up their own car.”
Michael Puddephatt said: “Change the exit of Butler Street to a curve, not a 90 degree left.”

Hide AdJohn Lancaster added: “Put some road markings and signs back along Fishergate to make it safer.”
Darren Killeen suggested: “Put traffic lights back and make it into a bus zone”, while Nicola Kennedy reckoned “much cheaper buses” were the answer to cutting congestion.
