Reports pedestrian seen ‘running across motorway’ closes M61 temporarily near Bamber Bridge

The M61 was closed in both directions between junction 9 (Clayton Brook) and the junction for the M6 at approximately 5.25pm on Monday (August 1).
Congestion was building in the area and officers advised motorists to plan alternative routes if possible.

Hide AdNational Highways said this was due to a “police-led incident” and officers urged drivers to remain patient.
On Tuesday (August 2), police confirmed they closed the motorway following reports “a pedestrian had run across the carriageway before making off into a nearby housing estate.”
“The motorway was shut for a short time while the area was searched,” a spokesman for Lancashire Police added.
No further details were been released about the pedestrian but no arrests or injuries were reported.
National Highways confirmed all lanes reopened at around 6.25pm but heavy congestion remained in the area.
