The pair, of Chorley, met in 1957 while working at Talbot Mill as spinners in the cotton factory and enjoyed their first date at Empire Theatre Cinema. They have six children, nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.Their daughter, Mandy Lancaster, said: “My parents say the key to a happy marriage is love and understanding each other. “We had plans for a big party but due to dad’s health and him just coming out of hospital recovering from pneumonia, we had a lovely family party at home which I’m sure they enjoyed with all their loved ones around.“We as a family are so proud of our parents celebrating this special occasion, especially with dad’s serious illness. He is so strong. We are so proud of mum looking after dad. “We all hope we can be like our parents and live a happy loving relationship with our partners as they both have. If we can, we will all be as happy as them.”The five generations are Vera, 78, and Peter, 76, their son Steven, 58, his daughter Carren, 38, her daughter Nicole, 19, and her son Joseph aged two.
