Tuesday, April 23 marks St George's Day - a celebration of England’s patron saint and the country’s history.
Making a special appearance at the Boars Head in Marton on Saturday, St George himself rode a horse into the pub for a celebratory pint.

Whilst St George was depicted from the 11th century as a chivalric knight or a warrior on horseback, it is more likely that he was an officer in the Roman army.

The most popular story of St George depicts him defeating a dragon. The story goes that he travelled to the town of Silene, Libya to slay a dragon that was terrorising the citizens. Upon witnessing his bravery, the villagers held a huge feast in his honour. This tale was meant to symbolise the battle between good and evil.
